Training
The project has a strong commitment to training and training plays a major part in our work.

All staff are registered with Scottish Social Services Council and ensure their professional
development is up to date by attending a wide variety of courses and keeping abreast of any
new developments in childcare and education. They are experienced in working with children
who have English as an Additional Language and children with Additional Support Needs.
Makaton signing is embedded in practice as a support for communication. As well as their
qualification all staff are trained in First Aid, Food Hygiene, Child Protection and some have
additional qualifications such as Post Graduate Certificate in Childhood Practice and BA in
Childhood Practice.

The project has been accredited by Scottish Qualifications Authority since 1996 to deliver
SVQs in childcare and education. The current SVQ we offer is Social Services (Children and
Young People) at Levels 2 and 3. This is one of the recognised qualifications early years
practitioners can gain in order to register with SSSC. Our assessors have the relevant
Assessor/Verifier qualifications, are very experienced at supporting candidates through the
award and are knowledgeable on practice and legislation.
